2 OUT OF 3 RULE-
Really Elementary
"They’re a four piece from London and they say they make stripped down indie pop. Three boys – Robin, Paul and Matthew – and a girl called Claire singing in a rather delicate quiet way. Five songs, yes, five stripped down quiet simple clever pleasing songs, five delightful songs – acoustic, wordy, intriguing, a restrained alternative edge – sometimes it really is that simple."
"This demo arrived in the post a day or so ago and I've given the CD a couple of spins thus far and I'm already starting to think that 2 out of 3 rule are onto something with their female fronted guitar pop.
Singer Claire Diamond comes across all Tracey-Anne Campbell on 'You Can't Choose Your Friends''. Indeed Camera Obscura are a fairly strong reference point for 2 out of 3 rule. All the songs are decent little pop nuggets with jangly guitars and nicely addictive hooks. Highlights being the aforementioned 'You Can't Choose Your Friends' and 'Artman'.
The only downside to the whole 'package' is the band's name. I just can't warm to the moniker '2 out of 3 rule'. That aside, the band show more than enough promise on these songs to warrant further attention. The band are currently recording their début LP (not sure whether they have a label ready to release it, or not) in Leeds. This will also be called 'Really Elementary'. A new London band that is worth looking out for, that makes a pleasant change."
artman
through with real life said the artman, i have foreseen her, i am all there, the briefly stored are soon gone, for long is the wall. i am all there, i'm at distance, feel your breath, wind resistance. we witness, we notice, sail a long way, in to the distance.
school girl
you're only a school girl. that's why you make it seem real when you smile.
toy soldier
it's on, older, my friend soldier. see how they break me, it's really elementary. do you wonder how it could be so.
all muscles and gums
all muscles and gums. short of any part, she plays it herself. stains the colours. the sounds of chimes are out of time with the music in mind. walks through applause dressed up in colours she fairs with quite well on certain summer nights. where drag is her scene, and hair is pristine. policed through the week. all muscles and gums.
you can't choose your friends
i've seen your face around before. i heard your mother knock our door. you hang around across the street. i've seen your face around before, lucks been knocking at your door, you've got friends i'd like to meet. i see no places. same old faces are enough. i've seen your face around before. i watch you play when i am bored. nothing to do but sit and eat.
